`Iddah for a divorced woman before consummating the marriage

Q: When a man divorces his wife before consummating the marriage, does she have to observe `Iddah (woman's prescribed waiting period after divorce)?

A: Allah (Exalted be He) says: O you who believe! When you marry believing women, and then divorce them before you have sexual intercourse with them, no ‘Iddah [divorce prescribed period, see (V.65:4)] have you to count in respect of them. This Ayah (Qur'anic verse) is clear evidence that a woman whose husband divorces her before consummating the marriage does not have `Iddah. May Allah grant us success.
